Can the president change the U.S. Constitution?


(Chicago Tribune) - No president, including Trump, can alter, rewrite or amend the Constitution of the United States. As president, he manages the operations of the executive branch of government through executive orders. According to the National Constitution Center, an executive order is a directive from the President that has much of the same power as a federal law.

Article II of the U.S. Constitution vests executive powers in the president, making him the commander in chief, and requires that the president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”

Yet even executive orders have constitutional limits. Presidents, and the executive branch, must comply with the Constitution, and can’t simply can't change it by themselves.
