Elizabeth Warren wants the popular vote to rule.
She floated the idea of dumping the Electoral College vote Monday night during her CNN Town Hall appearance.
Her pitch comes as support is building for the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact — where states commit to awarding all their votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote.
Massachusetts and our 11 Electoral College votes are part of that new deal. But all the states together who have joined the compact fall short of the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House. At last count, with Colorado joining in, the tally is at 181 electoral votes.
Last night, Warren, the Bay State’s senior Democratic senator who is running for president in the 2020 race, said during the televised forum in Mississippi that “every vote matters.”
“And the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the Electoral College,” she told the audience. Read more
