Pittsburgh Man Arrested On Terrorism Charges

Who is Mustafa Alowemer? The 21-year-old Pittsburgh resident and Syrian refugee was arrested and accused of planning an attack on the Legacy International Worship Center on the city's North Side and providing resources to the Islamic State group.


Alowemer was born in Daraa, Syria, and was admitted to the United States as a refugee on Aug. 1, 2016, according to the criminal complaint.

Pittsburgh resident, Syrian man arrested on terrorism charges after allegedly planning attack on Christian church. Alowemer and his family lived in Northview Heights, 1.5 miles from the church investigators said he planned to attack.


"He was very nice, very respectful," said Val Lauw.


Lauw lives in Northview Heights. She said Alowemer's mother gardened and he was her interpreter. Lauw said the family socialized often. Read more
