The Justice Department released a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, chronicling the results of his lengthy investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia's efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.
The 448-page report, which was released in two volumes, allows the public its first in-depth look at the results of Mueller's secretive investigation into whether aides of President Donald Trump collaborated with the Kremlin ahead of the election. The report also lays out evidence over whether Trump's behavior constituted an obstruction of justice.
The report details that Trump's campaign showed interest in benefiting from Russian government efforts to sway the 2016 presidential election in his favor, but investigators did not find evidence that the conduct amounted to a crime.
The report also detailed steps by the president and those around him to thwart the investigation that shadowed the first two years of his administration. Mueller’s office did not conclude that Trump's actions were illegal, but also pointedly refused to clear him of wrongdoing, stating "if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state.
