Transgender activists on Twitter have succeeded in their push to make a top feminine hygiene products brand more “inclusive.”
Always announced it will remove the Venus symbol – a sign derived from astrological signs used to represent women – from its packaging, Yahoo News UK reported.
Two transgender activists tweeted at the company in July asking why the symbols, which are currently emblazoned on the packaging of certain individually wrapped sanitary products, are necessary.
The two individuals, Ben Saunders and Melly Boom, have since made their Twitter accounts private.
“Could someone from Always tell me why it is imperative to have the female symbol on their sanitary products?” Bloom wrote. “There are non-binary and trans folks who still need to use your products too you know!”
A spokesperson for Always confirmed the company would be removing the Venus symbol in a letter to Saunders, which has since been shared online. Read more
