The American Dossier Editors Note : In a field such as sports it is welcoming to come across and hear an athlete's statement that exemplifies what a role model is and for all all young athletes and our politicians perhaps a lesson in statesmanship. The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl last year and seemed to be headed to a repeat until this happened...
"The Eagles were driving down the field, down by six late in the fourth quarter, a chance to take a lead. Foles found an open Jeffery in the middle of the field, threw it on target. It hit Jeffery in the hands, bounced into the air and Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore intercepted it. Jeffery turned his head back, tried to tackle Lattimore, and was blocked onto the floor. He lay there for a while, distraught.
The Eagles lost, 20-14. The season was over and, for at least a moment, every impressive catch Jeffery has made in his two-year Eagles career wasn’t on anyone’s mind. Just that drop. The most costly one of his NFL career.
On his way off the field, he was pulled aside by a few teammates. Jeffery shared his longest conversation with Foles:
“He said he loved playing me, throwing me the ball, making plays and that he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for me,” Jeffery said. Foles told him “'We wouldn’t have won the Super Bowl if it wasn’t for you'.”
Said Foles: “You just tell him you love him. That’s what it’s about. This game is tough. Not everyone can do it in those moments, I told him I love ya, let’s keep going, amongst other things I’ll keep to myself, but that’s the message. Playing this game is about developing those relationships.”
