The impeachment hearing is the inevitable result of our misguided, destructive bipartisan foreign policy of endless wars and foreign aid. No intervention, no foreign aid and there would be no meddling in the Ukraine, and therefore no "quid pro quo." BTW, all politics is a one gigantic quid pro quo.
Virtually all American politicians go to the voters and implore them, "vote for me and I will work to get you money!" Or, as Ross Perot said in the 1992 presidential campaign, politicians "bribe" voters with their (the public's) money. In short, we do not have a swamp in DC, we have a cesspool.
A foreign policy of the Founders, articulated by Jefferson in 1799 should be embraced by the federal government.
"I am for free commerce with all nations; political connection with none; and little or no diplomatic establishment. And I am not for linking ourselves by new treaties with the quarrels of Europe; entering that field of slaughter to preserve their balance. … The first object of my heart is my own country. … I have not one farthing of interest, nor one fibre of attachment out of it, but in proportion as they are more or less friendly to us."
