This Is Why America Is Great

By John Katz, Editor,The American Dossier

In a middle of a whacky news cycle this story touched me very deeply.

Abigail Arias although only 6 years old was sworn in on Feb. 7, as Freeport, Tx newest police officer surrounded by loved ones and officers from several different agencies around Texas. "Her spirit, her toughness, her will to survive, that's what (we believe in)," Police Chief Garivey said.

Young Abigail is fighting cancer. A reminder of how fragile and unfair life can be is serving a reminder of how important community is when it comes together in giving support and love.

Some times its all too easy to get caught up in the doom and gloom of news stories. Its all too easy to become gluttonous on the he/she said his fault her fault news headlines . So What does it take to make America great AGAIN?

I personally think that America and the world we live in are great. There are every day people like those in Freeport,Texas that exemplify that. It is not just a partisan slogan but the core of diversity of faith and actions of all people when they come together as not only as Americans, but as fellow neighbors.

Namely last week the actions of a small town, Police Chief truely lived to it s motto of "To Protect and serve " in uplifting the dreams of child fighting cancer. A 6-year-old Houston-area girl Abigal Arias had a dream come true when she was sworn in as an honorary police officer by Chief Ray Garivey and the Freeport Texas police department.

In what might not seem to be a major news headline or let alone an issue to be handled by a police department, serves as a beacon of hope that we are indeed a country willing to put politics aside and help a child live their dream with hope and prayers for healing thru coming together as a community.
