(The American Dossier-John Katz-Editor)
We at the American Dossier hope and pray that all may a have Blessed Thanksgiving.
Here is perhaps a thought to reflect on.
Is a turkey racist if it makes a ham take its place on the dinner table?
Turkeys can’t be racist as factually they don’t have free will.
That does not take away that Racism is a real serious issue.
What makes us humans different from all the other critters,is the gift and responsibility of free will and repentance. Whether you believe in a God or not. As generations have and can choose to make amends as we constantly evolve from transgressive nature.
We all unfortunately have prejudices but that does not necessarily make one racist.
However the current mainstream media would have you think otherwise, especially in labeling someone as a Hitler as it has often times without sustaining fact. That is where the danger of pride can get in the way.
Nothing and no one in this world is perfect
Growing up in New York I was probably over exposed and over simulated to and by surroundings of racism and prejudice. But I had a guiding family figure as my father was a Judge.
We lived in a relatively middle class area of the Bronx during early 70’s until 1985.
My family though had it roots since the late 1800s in living in a Irish/Italian /Jewish/African /American neighborhood.
In all the cultures mentioned above every block had its racist moments, prejudices and dividing lines.
Yes there was at times both cultural and racial prejudice to say the least which existed through the days of the Depression of the 30’s and 40’s the rebellions and riots of the 60’s and the urban blight and exodus of the 70’s to the revitalization in the 80’s and 90’s.
But despite what the media and stereotypes portray there has been progress on racial divide and transition from poverty to prosperity.
For example the South Bronx that once was known for having burning buildings on a daily basis is now known as SOBO. Redemption came into play (namely for the South Bronx Mother Teresa ,President Jimmy Carter and Mayor Giuliani )where leaders stepped up and guided people back to hope and co-exist and agree to disagree and co-exist .
Perhaps Norman Lear portrayed generational prejudice right with his 3 fictional TV sitcoms All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Maude. Namely in that the 3 main characters Archie Bunker , George Jefferson and Maude Findlay were misunderstood, stereo –typed and perhaps unfortunately had bigoted qualities but were portrayed as redeemable individuals that worked through their differences and were loved by their family and friends. That is to not makes excuses for their perhaps sinful transgressions or for factual racism.
Fast forward to 2018. where now we live in era of political correctness that if a dog barks randomly it and its s owner is labeled as bigoted and for leaders, such as politicians who use their moral compass.
But I believe that there is still hope even for the media. As we have the free will to pray that they can use their power to unite as all.
In closing we are all busy running liken chickens(Turkeys without their heads) as this Thursday we celebrate( or have celebrated) Thanksgiving.
PLEASE let go of your pride TAKE PAUSE IF EVEN FOR 10 SECONDS… and reflect, Thanksgiving is about relationships with friends and family. Not about the most perfect turkey. Do you use your whole being for pride and ego or are you able to radiate thanks and forgiveness? As this step will heals us all from pride, prejudice and racism.
